The Golden Brick:

" What are you looking at? You make me laugh! "

I never grow tired of watching the migrant workers, because they enjoy laughing. In the big cities, they are often spotted in groups, laughing and teasing one another. But it would seem that in Beijing, the smile has grown out of fashion ; these beautiful boys and those beautiful girls, staring at us with their cold and piercing eyes from the covers of the latest magazines in vogue, all this annoys me.

Every time I notice a brick, I think about the workers. For them, sons of the countryside, earth is life. In the cities under construction, earth becomes cement, and cement turns into brick.

I remember having once visited a workers¨ dormitory. They lived at ten per ten square meters. The beds were stuck one to another, like a wall´

This is why their smile moves me so much.

When I discovered the technique to print over brick, I immediately thought of printing faces of workers and their smiles.

This brick is for you as a gift for days of hardship´
